The 2000 era Audi vehicles can exhibit a variety of unrelated problems.
- - The optional DIS will develop missing lines.
- - Gauge motors for road speed and engine rpm can stop.
- - Gauge motors for engine temperature and fuel level can become inaccurate.
- - In some instances the whole instrument cluster can fail to operate in cold conditions.
Special Note
The vehicle immobiliser is integrated within the instrument cluster. The car cannot be started without the corresponding instrument being connected.
Upon reinstallation of the instrument cluster it may occur that the engine starts and cuts out immediately and flashes the immobiliser light. The trick to fixing this is to leave the key in the ignition "ON" position (without attempting further restarts) for at least 10 minutes. After this wait time the engine can be started normally.
